God’s Cultivation of His People
And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew. And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the LORD. – Genesis 4:25-26.
Bonsai are miniature, living garden or forest scenes growing in a shallow dish. Trees are dwarfed and gnarled by trimming, pruning, and training with wire. After decades of systematic care, the result is a pleasing scene with
strategically-placed moss and stone and ancient-looking trees that are only
inches tall.
Cultivating bonsai is an art. Yellowed leaves indicate an unhealthy branch.
Sometimes an overworked branch dies in the process and must be removed. Sometimes a branch is grafted to fill a space. The object for the artist is to produce an interesting and unique scene while maintaining the health of all plants in the dish.
God cultivated Adam and Eve’s family like the bonsai artist. His goal was to
produce a family of individuals who would teach their offspring to have a
relationship with God. When Adam and Eve failed to thrive in the garden, God transplanted them to a different ground. Adam and Eve had two branches, Cain and Abel. Abel was healthy while Cain was not. Cain smothered Abel, who died. Rather than let the entire family be affected by the sick branch, God pruned Cain and transplanted him. Adam and Eve, the trunk of God’s bonsai, sprouted another branch, a healthy branch. Now, all remaining members of the family began to pray regularly to God, developing a relationship with their creator.
God originally planned that we would tend his personal garden, but God wants our prayers even more than he wants gardeners.
Prayer: Our Heavenly Loving Father God, thank you for wanting relationships with us. Thank you for providing us prayer as a means to grow close to you.Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully, In Jesus Loving Name I Pray, Amen.”
Have a Blessed Wednesday and God Bless you.
