Last Words of Great People

Last Words of Great People

Today’s Scripture
.
“Each of us will give an account of himself to God” – (Romans 14:12).
.
Thoughts for Today
.
Many times, the last words of great people contain very important messages.
.
They are often a summary of that person’s life. D.L. Moody’s last words were, “Earth is receding, heaven is coming.” John Wesley said, “The best of all is God with us.” Charles Wesley’s last words were, “I shall be satisfied with thy likeness, satisfied … satisfied.”
.
There are some who maintain their sense of humor all the way to their dying moments. A story is told about a man named John Drew. As he was dying, his family gathered around his deathbed and one of his daughters asked, “Is he dead?”
.
Another daughter said, “Feel his feet. No one ever dies with warm feet.” Upon hearing this, Mr. Drew opened his eyes and said, “Joan of Arc did.” Then he died.
.
Some of the Apostle Paul’s last words were “Don’t ever give up.” There was no tinge of bitterness, no measure of regret, no anguish, and no remorse. Paul obviously had kept short accounts in his life, so when the time came for him to die, he was ready.
.
Paul writes, “Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death” (2 Corinthians 7:10).
.
We can be prepared for the time when we meet Christ in heaven; it is only a heartbeat away. Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 says, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven: a time to be born and a time to die.”
.
Paul lived his life in readiness. He was accountable to others and lived in peace. Even when he was imprisoned, he did not harbor bitterness toward his captors. Paul was forgiving. Those who harmed him, he forgave.
.
Are you keeping a short account? What will your final words be?
.
Prayer: Our Loving Heavenly Father, please help me to keep short accounts in this life. If there is someone that I need to forgive or ask forgiveness from, please give me strength to do so now. I pray you will be honored in all of my words, including my final words. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully, In Jesus Loving Name I Pray, Amen.”

SOMALIA, EAST AFRICA
.
Between 2006-2011, the militant group al-Shabab controlled much of Somalia, including its capital. They still control parts of Somalia, but not as much. The Somali Parliament voted Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon out of office after he refused to include President Sheik Oswa Jawari Jawari’s choices in his cabinet.
.
Pray for Somalia as its leaders seek to bring peace to the whole land.
.
Pray for the African Union troops as they control only small parts of the country and as they continue to struggle to provide security and battle corruption.
.
Pray for Jesus Christ to be known in this Muslim land.
.
PAKISTAN, SOUTH ASIA
.
After sectarian violence killed 11 in Rawalpindi, thousands of Sunni Muslims protested across the nation. In response, the government increased security by adding thousands of police and military personnel in major cities and around mosques. Officials banned public gatherings and closed many businesses.
.
Pray for peace between Shia and Sunni Muslims.
.
Pray for the safety and well-being of Believers in Pakistan.
.
Pray for the Pakistan Church to boldly share the Gospel despite the violence and instability surrounding them.
.
NIGERIA, WEST AFRICA
.
An attack by more than 5,000 Fulani Islamists killed at least 36 and displaced over 6,000. Countless remain missing. John Ngbede, Benue State Commissioner for Works and Transport, says, “The attackers are burning down houses, farmlands, and many are also being killed.” The extremists face little opposition because they greatly outnumber Nigerian security forces. According to lawmaker Sule Audu, “The attackers are over 5,000 spread across all the communities and unleashing terror on my people without resistance. What can less than 40 soldiers on the ground do to stop armed invaders numbering up to 5,000?”
.
Pray for peace in Nigeria.
.
Ask God to shield His Church in Nigeria from violence and bloodshed.
.
Pray for Nigerian Believers to stand strong in their faith during this difficult time
