Ethiopian police arrested five members of the Islamic terror group al Shabaab for plotting a terror attack during Ethiopia’s World Cup qualifying match. According to one suspect, “The plan was to hurl bombs at crowds gathered around the stadium and two malls, then enter the stadium and carry out a suicide attack.” The plan failed when two of the militant suicide bombers accidentally blew themselves up. In response, the Ethiopian government increased security near embassies, government buildings, humanitarian organizations, and hotels. . Praise God the terror attack did not occur. . Pray for the dismantling of al Shabaab. . Pray for the safety and security of Ethiopian Believers. . MYANMAR (BURMA), SOUTHEAST ASIA . President Thein Sein pardoned all political offenses and aims to free all political prisoners. According to ABC News, “The pardon covers people convicted of or charged with unlawful association, high treason, contempt of government, and violation of the peaceful assembly law. In addition to freeing those convicted of such crimes, the decree halted all ongoing trials and investigations on those charges.” . Praise God for the release of political prisoners. . Pray for an end to all human rights violations in Myanmar. . Pray for the new tolerance shown to political activists to also be applied to Christian Believers. . CHAD, CENTRAL AFRICA . Chad is working hard to accommodate the arrival of thousands of refugees. Approximately 72,000 people from Darfur and the Central African Republic have taken refuge in Chad. Libya also repatriated another 150,000 Chadians. Most of the refugees share a single, contaminated water source with livestock. Food insecurity and disease are also problems. . Pray for the Chadian government to supply health care, clean water, and food to the many refugees. . Pray for Christian workers in the country to share the Gospel with the displaced. . Pray for many refugees to believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. . ALGERIA, NORTH AFRICA . Over the past 55 years Algeria and China have expanded a diplomatic relationship. The Chinese have come to Algeria to help build roads and buildings. Many of them are looking to send money back home to their families. Most of the Chinese live in labor camps and life for them is very hard. . Pray for these Chinese living in Algeria. . Pray their desire to send funds home to their families will be realized as the two governments work on good relationships, and that human rights will be part of what they seek. . Pray that many of these Chinese will receive Bibles and hear the Good News of the Lord Jesus Christ in their own language.
