Responsibility
These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens, (5) And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground. (6) But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.- Genesis 2:4-6.
As a teacher, my responsibilities included keeping accurate records of attendance, student modes of transportation, which students ate the school’s breakfast or lunch, and managing extra curricular activities as well as tutoring after school. Besides these things, I had to know the content, prepare activities and assignments for each class, follow up on student behavior, write and grade tests, and answer to students, parents, teachers, and the school board. Most teachers are self-motivators and high-functioning individuals.Teachers are responsible for the progress and the documentation of progress for dozens of students.
People buy into the false notion that teachers have it easy. They don’t. Like motherhood, teaching is a lot of work and the responsibility is great.
Mercifully, God created our universe so the greater portion of it would function without our help. Just imagine what our lives would be like if—besides what we do for a living and for our families—we had to keep the stars in the sky and feed all the plants and animals on the planet. We couldn’t do it.
God doesn’t want us preoccupied with maintaining his creation. He has other things he’d rather we focus on, such as our relationships and being obedient to his will. He also wants us to focus more on a relationship with him than with the earth.
Since we don’t have to maintain care of creatures deep in the ocean, for example, we can, instead, thank our Lord God for continuing to provide for us.
SAY THIS: Our Loving Heavenly Father, your care of the universe is a service we so often take for granted. Thank you for serving us daily in both the big and small ways. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully, In Jesus Loving Name I Pray, Amen.”
